Surfing with Community: A Returning Wave Adventure,
In collaboration with Healing Water Journeys
Cost: $1950 per person (double occupancy)
September 16 – 26, 2015
Have you ever dreamed of surfing in paradise while engaging with local communities? Whether you are a seasoned surfer, or have always wanted to learn, this tour is sure to deliver. Join members of Returning Wave to explore the Island of Siargao in the Philippines known for its tranquility, white sand beaches and undeniably epic surf breaks. Returning Wave focuses on promoting education through the love of surfing by creating after-school surfing programs that keep children in school by offering the incentive of surfing lessons, and access to surfboards. On this tour, participants will be able to assist team members in establishing and maintaining lasting programs with local schools in order to affect positive change.
Our tour group will meet in Cebu City before departing for the sleepy surf town, Lanuza where we will work with the local school, surf and relax before departing for Cantilan. In Cantilan we will learn about the destruction caused by mining and meet with leaders of the anti-mining campaign. We will also attend the Sirong festival and view a war dance reflecting the Christianization of early Cantilangnons. Next we escape to remote Ayoke Island for a couple days of surfing bliss before moving on to the Philippines’ Pipeline; the famous Cloud 9 in Siargao. We will have a few days to explore this popular surf destination before flying back to Cebu City to say goodbye.
On the tour, you will have many opportunities to surf and lessons will be offered for beginners. Other highlights include visits to caves, mangroves, rock formations, and waterfalls as well as wildlife viewing and snorkeling. Prepare for inspiring moments and lasting memories along the way. Together we will learn from the spirit of the people and discover the magic and beauty of this tropical paradise.
